Methodology
Pod Tested exists to make one thing legible: does this tool actually work in the job you’d use it for? We test tools in real workflows, publish what worked and what didn’t, and show the conditions. Here’s exactly how.
The test sequence
Every review follows the same three steps:
- Test the tool. Hands-on, against a defined job — creation, production, automation — not a spec sheet.
- Measure the workflow. We record setup time, reliability, friction, output quality, controls, and real cost.
- Publish the verdict. We state who should use it, who should skip it, and exactly where it breaks.
What we score
Scores are earned on a 1–10 scale across the dimensions that matter for the category. For AI voice, that’s naturalness, editing control, consistency, latency, and value — and value is split by workload, because “worth it” for premium work isn’t “worth it” at volume.
The verdict system
Every badge is a measured result, not branding — and the bands are fixed, so you can audit us:
- Pod Approved — 8.0 and above. Passed the core workflow test, clear best-fit user, no major reliability issue.
- Useful, With Caveats — 6.0 to 7.9. A strong tool that works — but pricing, limits, or setup friction are real enough that you need to know about them before you commit.
- Not Production Ready — below 6.0. Breaks under real conditions, or missing key safeguards.
- Under Test — not enough evidence yet (a neutral, non-verdict state).
- Overhyped — marketing claims exceed observed value.
The score sets the badge; the workflow test can veto it. A tool that scores 8.0+ but fails under real conditions does not get a green badge on the strength of its number. The band is the gate. The test is the kill switch.
The one rule that matters
No pay-to-win scores. Commercial partners can sponsor a clearly-labeled placement. They cannot buy a verdict or edit a scorecard. When we test a product a company gave us access to, we say so. We use affiliate links, and they never change a score — see our affiliate disclosure.
The testing framework is the product. It’s what makes a Pod Tested verdict worth trusting.
